1) The external database services are
provided on external database servers and
are not part of your Windows VPS account and
cannot be managed by Plesk. You'd be given a
separate control panel to manage them. MySQL
is also installed locally on your VPS
Windows account with Plesk and you could
also use this local MySQL server for
yourself and your clients. You can install
any database server (including MSSQL or
MSDE) on your VPS hosting account and use DB
services directly from it rather than
depending on our external DB services
2) Plesk 8.1 for Windows is installed on
your VPS Windows account only after we get
your approval. We will seek this
approval from you through the Welcome Email
we send after account activation. A fully
running Plesk install uses about 150MB of
RAM and 400MB of disk space (which includes
MySQL Server, DNS server, Mail server and
control panel itself). A blank VPS install
uses around 80MB of RAM. So on the lowest
Windows VPS hosting plan i.e. WinVPS Value
only 100MB of RAM would be available after a
Plesk install. This is however sufficient
according to our testing to run most
applications/site.
3) If you do not want a Plesk install; MySQL
server, Microsoft DNS Server, PHP, Perl &
MailEnable will not be installed either as
they are part of the Plesk installation. You
will need to install them yourself if you
require to use them, or you can request a
custom install from us
4) Once Plesk has been installed (if you
approve it), you would need to log into your
VPS Windows hosting account using Terminal
Services or Remote Desktop and launch Plesk
from the desktop. You could then begin
configuring and using Plesk. You may need to
refer to the
Plesk 8.1 Manual. If you need
assistance, you can contact our support team
via ticket or live chat.
5) You are free to install JSP/Tomcat on any
Windows VPS plan for your JSP hosting needs.
However to use JSP/Tomcat with Plesk (i.e.
to allow Plesk to manage it), you'll need to
choose a VPS Windows hosting plan with the
Plesk Power Pack installed. Only the Power
Pack has the JSP plugin
6) Coldfusion Plugin support does not mean
Coldfusion pages will work in the VPS, it
means Plesk can manage Coldfusion if you
have a license to install the Coldfusion
Server software. Coldfusion versions 5- MX7
are supported.
